The Orthodox Church is often called the Church of the Fathers because she maintains a living connection with the early Church Fathers. As Orthodox Christians, we have inherited all the experience of 20 centuries of Christian living, thinking and believing and witnessing and dying. We have behind us millions of believing men and women of every country, witnessing to the truth of the Gospel, often dying for it in order to hand it down to us. We are a living connection with the entire past experience of the Church, 20 centuries of it, during which the Holy Spirit has been protecting and defining and proclaiming the truth of Christ through the Church.
