A parish of the
Hosea The Prophet

Prophet Hosea lived and prophesied 800 years before Jesus Christ, and his writings can be found in his fourteen chapters of the Old Testament. He was a contemporary of the holy Prophets Isaiah, Micah and Amos. During this time, many of his fellow Israelites had forgotten the true God, and worshipped idols. The holy Prophet Hosea attempted to turn them again to the faith of their Fathers by his wise counsels. He denounced the tribes of Judah and Israel and told of their punishment to come. He foretold how both Israel and Samaria would be destroyed for their failing away. He foretold of the times of Jesus Christ and of the times when animal sacrifices would be no more. Even though he foretold of their punishments, at the heart of Hosea’s preaching was a gospel of redeeming love. He died peacefully in great old age, which is again a sign of a true prophet.
