“The means to confirm and strengthen Christian hope are prayer, especially frequent and sincere prayer, confession of our sins, frequent reading of the Word of God; and above all, frequent communion of the holy and life-giving
Sacraments of the Body and Blood of Christ.”
-Saint John of Kronstadt
OCA News.......
A letter from the Holy Synod of Bishops to the clergy and laity was published on the OCA website on Friday afternoon, Aug. 29 (Beheading of St. John the Baptist). In it, the Holy Synod pronounced that they didn't act quickly enough concerning the current scandal engulfing our Church .

They further stated that whatever financial malfeasance occurred, it wasn’t their fault. They continued that they really didn't do anything wrong. Nevertheless, they’re sorry this happened, and hope to regain the laity’s trust again. This letter was published the weekend before the SIC2 (Special Investigative Committee No. 2) report is due to be presented to the Holy Synod, the Metropolitan Council and all the laity at the same time. The date for the presentation is Wednesday, September 3, 2008.

The turmoil surrounding the Church has been on going since former Treasurer, Protodeacon Eric Wheeler sent a series of three letters dated October 15 to November 1, 2005 to Metropolitan Herman, Primate of the OCA, members of the OCA's Holy Synod, and members of the OCA's Metropolitan Council. Protodeacon Wheeler demanded the Orthodox Church in America "clean house". It has been since late 2005 when information was first given to the Holy Synod. Their lack of moral oversight since that time has left the laity with mixed emotions.
