“The work of prayer belongs to the angels, and is, therefore, the special concern of the Church...A person praying acts towards God like a friend-conversing, confiding, requesting-and through this becomes one with our Maker Himself.”
-Saint Symeon of Thessalonica

On Thursday, January 3, Simeon Zemojda, 92, of Passaic fell asleep in the Lord. He is survived by his wife Theresa, three daughters Alice Knabe of Laguna Beach, Calif, Eva Zamojda of Passaic and Eugenia Oswalt of Santa Rose, Calif, and one granddaughter Eleanor Knabe.
Simeon was an active member of our church choir. An extremely pleasant gentleman, his ready smile and warm greetings will be missed by everyone.
From the Panikhida: Give rest with the Just, O our Savior, unto Thy servant and establish him in Thy courts, as it is written: Disregarding as Thou art good, his trespasses both voluntary and involuntary, and all things done with knowledge or in ignorance, O Thou who lovest mankind. Blessed are they whom Thou hast chosen and taken, O Lord. The remembrance of them is from generation to generation.
Grant rest O Lord to the soul of Thy servant who has fallen asleep. May his memory be eternal.

A thank you letter accompanied the Enlightener this month from Florence Junda, coordinator of our church involvement with St. Peter’s Haven in Clifton for the purpose of helping those in need. St. Peter’s Haven also sent our parish a thank you for our help that accompanied the letter from Mrs. Junda. Her letter of appreciation follows:
It is with humble gratitude that I thank you all for your generous donations to St. Peter’s Thanksgiving program. Because of St. John’s donations The Haven was able to distribute food baskets to 150 families, the most ever. It is sad to say that overall donations were down, but because of the donations from St. John’s they were able to complete their commitments. I appreciate the fact that the Trustees and members of St. John’s are with me in this Ministry. But special thanks go to shut-ins or former members of our congregation who have move away but still receive our newsletter and are aware of the work that we do. This year I received 8 donations in the mail. May God Bless You All for caring for those less fortunate than you. (Signed) Florence Junda.
Thank You.....
....give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."
