May News from St. John's........

Father Igor’s message for May includes the following: As we celebrate Christ’s third day resurrection, the Church emphasizes His victory over death, granting life to all those in the tombs and reopening the gates of paradise. This message of eternal life however is not the only message that we should celebrate during this Paschal Season. Through His teachings and examples, Christ gave us the following tools to obtain eternal salvation: love, peace and forgiveness.

Love: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)….. By Christ sacrificing Himself on the Cross, He displays this greatest commandment and awaits us to love one another.

Peace: Before He is arrested He says to His disciples, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27) ….. It is a reminder to us all that Christ came to grant the world perfect peace, which is reconciling ourselves with God and our neighbor. If we focus on our love for God and our neighbor we will find peace of mind, heart, body and soul.

Forgiveness: After He rises from the dead, Christ appears to His disciples and preaches, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations.” (Luke 24:46-47) ,,,,, Jesus reminds us that we all will make mistakes and we all will sin. If we want to receive forgiveness then we must first forgive.

I pray that each one of us not only finds a way to participate in the beautiful services this Paschal season, but more importantly I pray that everyone in our parish community finds a way to believe and live out the teachings of our Lord by imitating His love, peace and forgiveness. This is the greatest way we can celebrate His Resurrection. In Risen Christ, Fr. Igor
